Preston Ryback has pursued his passion of music for
over three decades. Vancouver born and Los Angeles trained; Preston
has studied at Chaffey College, The Dick Grove School of Music and
the University of Southern California.
Presently, from his oceanfront recording facility,
“ShoreClub Studios,” Preston operates his company, “Preston
Ryback Music Productions.” In addition to composing hundreds
of musical compositions, Preston is also a producer, arranger, orchestrator
and conductor of music heard in the mediums of film, television,
video, websites, interactive CD, radio & expo pavilions. Further,
Preston has performed trumpet professionally with a myriad of diverse
groups, including his own cruise ship orchestra.
Preston has worked on award winning projects such
as Michael Conway Baker’s GEMINI winning CBC TV series score
"A PLANET FOR THE TAKING" by David Suzuki, and Ferocious
Fish’s LEO Award winning film score for “ONCE IN A BLUE
MOON” by director Philip Spink.
Preston has taught music theory, arranging and
songwriting at the Institute Of Communication Arts/CDIS (now: The
Art Institute of Vancouver - Burnaby Location) and for the Vancouver
School Board, as well as authoring articles on contemporary musical
concepts. In addition to being a past Director and Honourary Member
of the Pacific Songwriters Association (PSA), Preston has served
as a music consultant, panelist and/or juror for the organizations
of SOCAN (Society Of Composers, Authors And Music Publishers Of
Canada), FACTOR (Foundation To Assist Canadian Talent On Record),
The A.F.of M. (American Federation Of Musicians), as well as for
the West Coast Music Awards.
Preston has received a Canada Council Arts Award
for composition, the Harry Warren Memorial Scholarship at the University
of Southern California, two National Association Of Jazz Educators
(NAJE) awards plus other honours, grants and bursaries.
